Celebrate Chinese New Year at the Pacific Restaurant

January 10, 2014; Victoria, B.C. - Friday, January 31 rings in the Year of the Horse, and The Pacific Restaurant at the Hotel Grand Pacific is extremely proud to present locals and visitors alike with a Chinese New Years' experience. A special dinner menu will be offered from January 29 - February 2, in addition to standard menus during dinner service.

The foods selected for a Chinese New Year menu are more than delicious - "they are symbolic and auspicious, intended to invite good fortune, good health and abundance for the coming year," said Executive Chef Rick Choy. Chef Choy has created a menu that pays homage to the exquisite, elaborate banquets found at Asian restaurants, in the form of a three-course lunar feast to be enjoyed in the quietly elegant surroundings of the Pacific Restaurant.

The menu begins with the choice of Confit Duck Soup with Preserved Lemon or Stir Fried Garlic Prawns, Jasmine Tea Panna Cotta and Cilantro Pesto. The main course features your pick from local Chicken Ballotine with Pine Mushroom and Prosciutto Ham, Sherry Au Jus and Ginger Infused Yam Pave or Pan Fried King Fish, Calamansi Lime Sauce, Miso Roasted Eggplant, and Basil Long Grain Rice Pilaf. Dessert is a traditional Black Sesame Seed Roll, Coconut Custard and Honey Wine Poached Pear.

Continuing The Pacific's fusion of traditional and contemporary, Daniela Cubelic, tea master and owner of Silk Road, has selected Chinese tea pairings for each dish, while The Pacific Restaurant's in-house sommeliers have prepared contemporary wine pairings.

The Pacific's Chinese New Year menu is offered for $38.88 per person. Silk Road Tea pairings are available for an additional $8.88 per person, and the sommelier-selected wine pairings are available for an additional $28.88 per person.
